What is JUVÉDERM® XC?

JUVÉDERM® XC is a non-surgical filler injected into the skin that instantly smooths lines along the sides of the nose and mouth. It can provide natural-looking results for up to a year with optimal treatment. Your doctor injects JUVÉDERM® XC into the skin using a fine needle to temporarily fill in the treatment area and smooth moderate to severe facial wrinkles such as parentheses (smile) and marionette lines.

What is hyaluronic acid (HA)?

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a naturally occurring substance found on your skin. As you age, your HA levels begin to lessen, diminishing the skin’s structure and volume and contributing to the formation of wrinkles and folds.

What is the difference between BOTOX® and JUVÉDERM® XC?

BOTOX® Cosmetic and JUVÉDERM® XC are two possible ways to treat moderate to severe facial lines and wrinkles. While both are non-surgical, they work differently:

  • BOTOX® Cosmetic is Injected beneath the skin’s surface to target and reduce the underlying muscle activity (one of the causes of moderate to severe frown lines between the brows and crow’s feet).
  • JUVÉDERM® XC is injected into the skin to temporarily smooth moderate to severe wrinkles like those around the nose and mouth.

Am I a candidate for JUVÉDERM® XC?

JUVÉDERM® XC has been researched and approved for all skin types. Do not use this product if you suffer from severe allergies or have a history of severe allergic reactions. Do not use if you have allergies to lidocaine or the proteins used to make hyaluronic acid. Your doctor can determine if JUVÉDERM® XC treatment is right for you.

What does my doctor need to know to approve treatment with JUVÉDERM® XC?

Your doctor needs to know if you are pregnant, breastfeeding or have a history of excessive scarring or pigmentation disorders. Disclose any medications you are currently taking that can prolong bleeding, or therapy used to decrease the body’s immune response.

Does it hurt?

Injections may cause minor discomfort during and after the injection. JUVÉDERM® XC is formulated with lidocaine (numbing agent) for a more comfortable treatment experience.*1 Your doctor may choose to additionally numb the treatment area to further reduce discomfort.

How long does treatment take?

The injection process is as quick as a brief office visit. Please allot time to consult with your doctor prior to treatment. Touch-up and repeat injections are usually required to maintain desired results.

How long does it last?

With optimal treatment, correction may last up to 1 year. Touch-up and repeat injections are usually needed to maintain desired results. About half the amount of treatment gel is normally used for repeat injections.

What are the possible side effects?

Most side effects are mild or moderate in nature, and their duration is short lasting (7 days or less). The most common side effects include, but are not limited to, temporary injections site reactions like redness, pain/tenderness, firmness, swelling, lumps/bumps, bruising, itching and discoloration.
